A Tragedy in Georgia

I write to you today with a heavy heart as we once again confront the devastating reality of a school shooting. This time, in Georgia, a 14-year-old student took lives, injured others, and left a community of students, educators, family and friends shattered, grappling with grief and searching for answers.

As leaders in education, you are the pillars of strength and support for your students, teachers and staff. I want to acknowledge the emotional toll this takes on you and your team. The weight of responsibility, the burden of grief and the pressure to create a safe learning environment can be overwhelming.

Remember, you are not alone in this fight. Your dedication, compassion and strength are the beacons of hope in these dark times. AFSA remains committed to driving our nation toward meaningful solutions.

To you and your team, I offer these words:

  • You are the guardians of our children's futures.
  • Your work is invaluable, your impact immeasurable.
  • You are the difference makers, the changemakers and the healers.
  • You are strong, capable and resilient.

Keep pushing forward, even when it feels like the weight of the world is against you. America’s school children need you now more than ever.
