Oakland Teachers Authorize Strike

Oakland Unified School District teachers who are Oakland Education Association members voted to authorized a strike due to a stalemate in their current contract negotiations with the district.

Teachers have been without a contract since 2017 and are asking the district to reduce class sizes, increase school resources, and raise wages. The strike authorization had support from 95 percent of the voting Oakland Association Members.
