2025 Convention

Educators are the backbone of every community, but their ability to inspire students and transform schools depends on one essential ingredient: positive leadership. That was the message best-selling author and global leadership consultant Jon Gordon delivered during the opening keynote of the convention.

"Seventy percent of Americans approve of unions, and almost 90% of young people under the age of 30 support unions because of the work you are doing."
"You’re a delegate because someone thought you were a leader. Go back home and bring someone else in. Wake them up."
But I worry that a little girl like me today—the daughter of immigrants—may not get the same chance I had. And we should all be worried about that.
True power lies in lifting others up and growing the movement. Hold your arms open, and you create an army of leaders who will carry this work forward.
No matter how challenging our schools can be, the way we lead with love makes the difference for our students.
This is our moment to be bold, to raise our voices, and to fight for the future of our students and our communities.

Delegates took decisive action to protect federal support for schools, demand greater investment in school leadership and reaffirmed AFSA's commitment to putting students first.
The convention also marked the end of service for two longtime national officers. AFSA President Leonard P. Pugliese and Executive Vice President Lauran Waters-Cherry stepped down after years of steadfast leadership.
